Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
Lire ("we", "our", "us") operates the Lire Repo Reader application, accessible at repo.lire.live, a subdomain of lire.live. This application allows users to consolidate GitHub repository source files into a single readable output for personal use, analysis, or AI context generation.
This Privacy Policy explains how Lire handles information when you use our service.
2. Information We Collect
Lire Repo Reader is designed to be minimally invasive. Here is what may be processed:
- Repository URLs: When you submit a GitHub repository URL, we use it solely to make requests to the GitHub API on your behalf and return the result. We do not store it.
- GitHub Usernames: When you look up a GitHub user profile, we query the GitHub API and return the public profile. Usernames are not stored.
- Server Logs: Like all web servers, our infrastructure may log basic request metadata (e.g., IP address, timestamp, HTTP method) for security and operational purposes. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days and are not used for user profiling.
- No accounts: Lire Repo Reader does not require registration. We do not collect your name, email address, or any account-based personal information.
3. How We Use Information
Any information processed is used strictly to:
- Respond to your request (fetching repository content or a user profile from GitHub)
- Maintain operational security and server stability
- Debug errors and improve service reliability
We do not use your data for marketing, advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the service.
4. GitHub API Usage
Lire Repo Reader makes requests to the GitHub REST API. When you use our service:
- Requests to GitHub's API are made from our server on your behalf.
- Public repositories are accessed without authentication by default (subject to GitHub's rate limits).
- If you provide a Personal Access Token (PAT), it is sent to our server only at the time of your request to authenticate with GitHub, and is never logged or stored server-side.
- Content fetched from GitHub (source files, profile data) is returned to you and not stored on Lire's servers.
Your use of this service is also subject to GitHub's Privacy Statement.
5. Local Storage & Cookies
Lire Repo Reader uses browser localStorage (not cookies) to save your preferences locally on your device:
- GitHub PAT token (optional): If you choose to save a PAT token, it is stored in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device except when you make a request to our service (where it is used transiently to authenticate with GitHub).
- Theme preference: Your light/dark theme choice is stored in localStorage.
We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking technologies.
You can clear your localStorage at any time via your browser's developer tools or by clicking "Clear Token" in the app settings.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party, except:
- GitHub: Requests you initiate are forwarded to GitHub's API. This is the core function of the service.
- Hosting providers: Our infrastructure providers may process server-level data (e.g., logs) subject to their own privacy policies. We select providers with strong data protection practices.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.
7. Data Retention
Since we do not store personal data or query results server-side, there is no retention period for user-submitted data. Server logs (non-personal request metadata) are retained for up to 30 days for operational purposes, then deleted.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect the service, including:
- HTTPS-only connections (TLS encryption in transit)
- No storage of sensitive data (PATs, repository content) server-side
- Regular security reviews of our codebase
However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. Use this service with that understanding, particularly when handling private repository access tokens.
9. Children's Privacy
Lire Repo Reader is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
10. Your Rights
Since we do not collect or store personal data about identified individuals, there is limited data to access, correct, or delete. However, if you have concerns about data associated with your server log entries (e.g., IP address), you may contact us and we will address your request in accordance with applicable law, including GDPR where applicable.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
